In today’s podcast episode I chatted with Steve Brenner, co-owner of The Beehive in Rome, and surfer who describes himself as a surfer who never gets to surf.

Sperlonga is one of the best beaches in Italy that's just an hour-plus from Rome. It's delightful for swimming and occasional surfing. Serapo beach in nearby Gaeta is a great surf spot.

Italy has just short of 5,000 miles (close to 8,000 kilometers) of coastline, and over several dozen sizable islands (450 in total), the largest and most notable of these being Sicily and Sardinia. Umbria, where Steve lives, is the only region in all of Italy that's landlocked.
When you visit Italy you probably gear yourself towards the fabulous food and wine, visits to historic monuments, churches and works of art.
But if you’re a beach fanatic, or a surfer, then be sure to also make this part your Italian journey. Although most people don’t immediately think of Italy when it comes to surfing there are many wonderful surf spots to enjoy. It helps if you have surf contacts to access great surf spots so do some research on the surf spots in Italy where you'll be traveling.
