    Chestnut roaster from Pienza

Last week I stopped through Pienza, after a day long Brunello wine, tasting to pick up some cheese and enjoy the beauty of the town. Just as you enter the town from the main piazza outside the town walls there's a wonderful shop, a sort of combination casalinga/ferramenta, that sells all kinds of articles for the home.

Compared to other shops in Pienza, many of which are very upscale and cater to the tourist trade, this shop still remains just as it has been for decades. I love it and almost always find something to buy, something I absolutely need...even though I only realize it once I enter the shop.

This chestnut roaster has been sitting on my dining room table since I purchased it, simply because I enjoy looking at it. It's not something to hide away in a closet because beyond its intended use it's a beautiful wrought iron roaster.

The chestnut roaster has a long handle so that it can be used in a fireplace without getting your hand too close to the fire. It's closed on top and bottom so it can be easily rotated over the fire.

Do I roast a lot of chestnuts? Not much. I do use chestnut roasters regularly to roast peppers and potatoes and since this roaster is closed top and bottom I might just use it to roast a fish.
